Ottawa Birth & Wellness Centre

The Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre (OBWC) opened in 2014, as part of a pilot of midwife led-birth centres funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. More than 600 babies have been born in this community-based space. The centre’s birth suites offer clients with low-risk pregnancies an informal, family-centered place to give birth.

Everyone who works at the OBWC takes a culturally inclusive, non-institutional and holistic approach to care that draws clients from across the Ottawa area. The centre welcomes all clients, including young women, new immigrants, single mothers, Aboriginal women, LGBT parents, and any others who are exploring out-of-hospital birth options. The Wellness Centre located at OBWC houses a wide range of practitioners and service providers, offering everything from massage therapy to childbirth education.

There are six midwifery clinics who have privileges to work at the OBWC. To find out whether you're able to have your baby at the birth centre, talk to your midwife. Don't have a midwife? Find the clinic closest to you using our Find a Midwife tool.
