September 17, 2018
Presenters: Dr. Allison McGeerLocation:
Event Type: Webinar
The bacteria Group A Streptococcus commonly colonizes people without causing any harm, but it can also cause many different types of infection, ranging from mild strep throats to fatal toxic shock or necrotizing fasciitis. Because vaccines are not yet available, both children and adults remain susceptible to infection. Intra- and post-partum invasive group a strep infections are rare but life-threatening, and are particularly feared because they can occur in outbreaks due to person to person spread of this bacteria. This talk will review the clinical presentations and epidemiology of group A strep infections, and the measures that can be taken to prevent illness and transmission.
